WildFest is the name of the annual San Antonio Annual Birding and Nature Festival. If this is the first year that you have considered taking part in the festival, there are many exciting activities that are fun for the entire family.

WildFest is held every May with the goal of educating the residents of the city of San Antonio about the abundance and diversity of wildlife and birds in the general South Texas area. Through workshops and interactive events, the festival focuses on the habitats of Mitchell Lake, the Medina River, Government Canyon State Park and the Missions Historical Park.

One of the main events of the festival is the 5K run call Run Wild. Some of the workshops in past years have included three-hour seminars on the basics of birding and a study of the different species of turtle that live in South Texas. Every year, there is a volunteer event where concerned citizents pick up litter and help restore the beauty of the parks.

Most people find it difficult to slip in time for enjoyable activities when they’re juggling a hectic schedule. From soccer games to work schedules to worrying over Spring Texas, electricity bills, who has time to stop and smell the roses? When you live near San Antonio, you should make sure to pencil in time to check out the annual WildFest Birding and Nature Festival.

What is WildFest?

During WildFest, attendees are educated about the unique environments of San Antonio. This helps to spread knowledge and increase awareness. The festival is filled with lectures and workshops. There are also tons of field trips, too, including ventures to hike, bird watch and star gaze. Locales throughout San Antonio offer special events, including local museums and gardens. Participants are also encouraged to pay a visit to the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park.

What will I learn about?

You can pick and choose which activities you want to participate in, which means you can completely gear your experience to your interests! Topics covered include:

Archaeology
Art
Bats
Birds
Geology
History
Plants
Water

Why San Antonio?

San Antonio is home to two of America’s most well-known tourist stops: the Alamo and River Walk. Lesser known to both tourists and San Antonio residents alike is that the area has four diverse ecosystems, making it the perfect place for a nature festival.

How can I get involved?

There are a few different ways to get involved with WildFest. If you simply want to attend the programs and events, check out the festival’s online schedule. You can also host an event or a program if you’re a local organization, attraction or natural area. Volunteers are welcomed as well and you can volunteer either as an individual or as part of a group. Contributions to WildFest are also accepted.

San Antonio is connected to four different ecological regions, thus making the area a great place to find an assortment of wildlife. This is one of the reasons that San Antonio decided to begin San Antonio’s annual Bird and Nature Festival.

Upon attending this event, people will discover wildlife in their natural habitats and learn about some of the historical features of San Antonio. The festival was originally developed as a tool to teach tourists about the area to which they were traveling or vacationing. Now that the festival has been operating for a couple of years, the committee members are hoping to get more native San Antonio dwellers to learn more about the history and natural environment of where they live. Festival committee members believe that it is important for people who live there to explore their natural surroundings.

San Antonio’s annual Bird and Nature Festival offers a variety of ways for children and adults to connect with each other and their surroundings. The festival also helps people to see the historical and natural beauty of the area. The committee is excited about coming up with new and innovative ways to get children more interested in nature.

The city of San Antonio, Texas has natural beauty and wildlife to share with tourists and locals citizens. San Antonio, Texas’s Annual Bird and Nature Festival mission is for people to see the birds, plants and other wildlife in their natural habitats. National Historical Park, Mitchell Lake, Botanical Gardens and Medina River are involved in the annual festival each year in Bexar County, Texas. Commonly known as WildFest San Antonio, this event teaches about the diverse ecosystems of the local area. Visitors of the event have a choice of attending a wide variety of lectures, workshops and fieldtrips. Topics of interest include birds, bats, butterflies, insects, fish, wildflowers, geology, history, archaeology, and other topics of nature. A newer event of the San Antonio’s Annual Bird and Nature Festival is a 5K run, “Run Wild San Antonio”. The first San Antonio WildFest was held in May 2007 and was so successful that it has continued to grow in popularity. WildFest allows Bexar County, Texas to showcase a reason to visit the area in addition to Spanish Governors Palace, San Fernando Cathedral, and Mission San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo). The next San Antonio WildFest will take place in May, 2012.

The San Antonio Annual Bird and Nature Festival, also known as WildFest, is a fantastic event held in Texas in order to celebrate the natural beauty of San Antonio’s ecosystems. The area is a convergence of four separate ecosystems offering a plethora of different wildlife. It is meant to be an extremely interactive and fun educational experience for all ages.

The festival is held every May and past events have included field trips to places like the Missions National State Park, Medina River Natural Area and Government Canyon State Natural Area. Workshops were offered in subjects like history, art, butterflies, and of course birds. San Antonio has long been a destination for bird watchers due to the huge amount of species available for observation.

WildFest is helping San Antonio become one of the nation’s hot spots for eco-tourism. Eco-tourism is a type of tourism that both focuses on vacation and having either no impact or a positive impact upon the environment. Bexar County is both culturally and naturally diverse, making it the perfect place for the Wildfest festival to take place. This beautiful tradition of education and respect for the environment began in 2007, and the festival is still going strong today. Can’t get enough?
